Preventing Boils after Shaving

Shaving with the right razor brings out the manliness in any man. Why there is absolutely nothing wrong in sporting a beard, it doesn't compare to the freshness and cute look of a well-shaven man. As delightful as this may seem, the worse nightmare for any man is having a skin reaction after shaving. Boils on the face after a shave are just heinous; there's no better way to put it.

Use Quality Safety Razors

This is usually the first line of defense against having boils. With the sharpness of a safety razor like the Vikings Blade, hair won't be pulled or tugged on. This causes issues with the hair follicle which brings about infection by bacteria to cause a boil.

Replace Your Blades

Since boils are caused by bacteria build up in the pores, you have to prevent the likelihood of this occurring. Besides contact of hand with face (hands should be washed properly), blades could also help encourage the growth of these bacteria. Use blades once and dispose of them until you have stopped having boils.

Soak in Alcohol

Another cost effective way to treat blades is to soak them in alcohol. This helps fight off bacteria growth on the blade and also allow you save a bit on buying razor blades.

Don't Share Razor

When you start noticing boils on your face, it is medically advisable to stop sharing blades and other cleaning tools that have contact with skin.

Use Good After-Shave Creams

There are good after shaves that help prevent colonization of bacteria on expose pores; the more natural the ingredients, the better for your skin. You would not want to include chemicals to this battle.

Vikings Blade Safety Razor Review

The end of this month makes it exactly 6 months I've been using the VikingsBlade safety razor. I feel it's appropriate to give a review at this point. I got the VB as a New Year's gift from my fiancée on the 1st of January. I started using it that evening and I have not had any major issues with it yet. The only minor issue I had at first was adjusting to its classic length handle. Not only because I've big hands, were my last razors long handled. My fiancée couldn't spot the difference and just went ahead to buy it. This would be the best mistake to have happened to me ever!

The razor is sharp! I cannot express this enough. It cuts through my hair effortlessly and in one stroke. Like the butterfly I'm used to, this one allows for a quicker blade change. This prevents that unnecessary break in shaving, especially when I'm late for an appointment. Generally this is a good product and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to change a safety razor.

Different Types of Badger Hairs Used In Making Badger Shaving Brush

Shaving brush is made from different sources like the synthetic ones, boar hairs, horse, and badgers. The badger hair brush is the best of all of these brushes. When used with a good safety razor like Vikings Blade, it gives quality shaves. Taking the badger brush into closer perspective, there is different quality depending on the location of the body the hairs were taken from.

Grade 1

This is the most common type of badger hairs. These hairs are found in the general body of a badger. They seem to be coarser than others in this hair type and would give a better exfoliation when used during shaving. They are also usually the cheapest of badger hair brushes.

Grade 2

This brush hair seems to be darker in color than the Grade 1 hairs. It is gotten from the stomach area of the badger. The hairs are softer and won't give as much exfoliation when shaving like the Grade 1 brush. Because of its texture, it is able to trap in more moisture.

Grade 3

In comparison to the previous two grades, this one has a finer gauge. It is gotten from the back region of the badger. Exfoliation will reduce but it holds much more moisture. This means it would produce a much richer lather.

Grade 4

This has the finest gauge of them all and is gotten from the neck region of the badger. It is ideal for getting the best moisture and would resultantly produce a better, richer, and fuller lather.

Safety Razor vs Cartridge Razor: What the Total Cost Implication?

Oftentimes we hear people trying to compare the safety razor to that of the cartridge. If you pay attention to most of the arguments, you would see reasons with each side of the argument. While everyone is entitled to hold their opinion on any subject matter, when it comes to saving money on shaving, there is no basis for comparison. The annual cost implication of using a cartridge razor for a year is about $240. This is just plainly outrageous!

Let’s get a little bit practical with this. Go to amazon and search for double edge safety razors like the Vikings Blade and take note of the average price on such products. Do same with the cartridge razor and compare the price. The next thing to do is to consider the cost of purchasing extra blades. While Vikings Blade comes with 5 extra blades, not all safety edge razors come with such benefits. Search for the price of a safety edge razor blade refill and do same with the cartridge razor. The difference in cost price is the reason the safety razor has become a household choice among men today. So yes, it is very much possible to get a god shave and still save money!

Getting It Right with Wet Shaving

Most times we try to change the way things were done and rebrand them as modern or advanced. Wet shaving is one shaving principle that has refused to die out. Right from the days of our grandfathers till now, wet shaving is still being practiced. The only difference this time is that most of us are yet to perfect it the way they did back in those days. Wet shaving requires three main tools which when used properly, deliver superb results.

A Good Shaving Razor

What makes a good shaving razor? This is one question that has left many men confused in the search for answers. While there's no one fit-it-all definition, a good razor should be able to function well like it was designed to do effortlessly. It should be sharp and give close shaving. Since you'd be changing blades, it's always smart to go with an inexpensive razor. A product like the Vikings Blade not only comes with extra blades, its blades are relatively cheap to buy.

A Good Brush

No other tool has been given less respect as is due to it like the shaving brush. Nothing beats a badger-hair shaving brush! You'd only understand this if you have ever used your fingers before. When used properly, it is the difference between a comfortable shave and one that isn't. It helps distribute the shaving cream or gel evenly on the stubble.

A Good Shaving Cream

The best types of shaving creams are the glycerin-based ones. Not only do they lather well, they have got the right oils to help feed proteins to your hair. The more protein they have, the more soften they become. Soft hairs in good cream lather meeting with sharp razor equals a good wet shave.

Vikings Blade vs Ikon OSS DLC Safety Razor

The Vikings Blade is all about bringing out the manliness in every man. From its design to its performance, the product is simply just one of a kind. Ikon is not a common name in the double edge razor world but this product is one that can certainly hold its weight effortlessly.

Design
TheVikings Blade is fine precision equipment made from bronze and brass alloy with a beautiful chrome plating finish. The product is a heavyweight razor and allows for easy control and close shave. The product has a length of 3.75” and a weight of 85g. The product comes with an advanced butterfly head and a micro-comb. The Ikon OSS DLC is made from strong materials and has a stainless steel coating to prevent rust. Just looking at the product at it is obvious the manufacturer sure knows how to pay attention to details.

Accessories
Unlike most double edge razors of today, the Vikings Blade comes with a travel case to allow you take the manliness wherever you go. The travel case also has a mirror inside for easy shaving use. The product also comes with 5 extra sharp, unbranded blades. The Ikon OSS DLC does not come with any accessory. Others would have to be purchased separately.

Unique Feature
The Vikings Blade has a micro-comb feature that prevents cuts and injuries during shaving. This feature is located in the product’s butterfly head. The butterfly head allows for easy blade changes. The OSS feature in the Ikon OSS DLC gives the product an aggressive shave and makes it ideal for use on coarse, thick hairs.

Vikings Blade Razor Review

I decided to try out the Vikings Blade after hearing so much about it. Since at the time my old razor was almost at its end, I decided to give the product a try. The butterfly head part is just simply beautiful. I think it gave the product a certain level of pride. The chrome plating gives the razor a classic look. The razor doesn't feel too lightweight so it gives the confidence it even with a finer grip, the razor will not break into two.

It is a classic handle razor and may not be ideal for people with big hands. Mine came with a travel case and 5 extra blades. The extra blades were what made me interested in the product. These big names don't seem to have many accessories when purchased. I remember I had to go purchase extra blades. So I'll just watch and see how long it can last or how long it can take me until I need to change razors.

Maintaining Your Razor Blades

Like any other equipment, the service life is largely determined by the level of maintenance it enjoyed. The same can be said of double edge razorblades. Ideally blades have different service life and this is as a result of the difference in brands and coarseness of the hair. Generally blades are expected to last for about two to three shaves before becoming dull. An exception to this case is when using top quality razor blades like those of Vikings Blade, Gillette, and others. For these once, the blades can give an average person up to five to seven shaves before reducing in sharpness. For some with less coarse hair types, the blade can shave further than that.

The best place to store a blade that's not in use is in its original packing. Among other things, you wouldn't want your blade getting contaminated by placing it in an unclean environment. After using your blades for shaves, ensure you dry them out thoroughly with the aid of a dry towel or napkin. Although manufacturers make blades that are coated with materials to prevent rust, it is good to discard blades that have stayed too long in the razor. After a while, they could start to get corroded. Blades were not designed to spend an eternity in their razors.

The Vikings Blade vs Wilkinson Sword Classic

When it comes to double edge razors, there seems to be certain level of variation in designs from one brand to another. Of these variations, there always seems to be a sharp contrast in its features. It's lightweight or heavyweight, cheap or expensive, and so on. Both products to be compared fall into the cheap double edge blades but there appears to still be some difference in their features.

Design

The Vikings Blade is made from high quality, superior materials that sourced from Sweden and Germany. The razor has a chrome plated covering that gives it an attractive appearance. It is a short handle razor with a weight of 85g and length of 3.75". This makes it a heavyweight razor and allows for a firm grip when in use.

The Wilkinson Sword Classic is made mostly from strong plastic. When in comparison with other plastic double edge razors, it tends to stand out because of its strength. It is a short handle razor that comes in a very simple design. Although it seems to have some weight to it, it still falls under the category of lightweight double edge razors.

Accessories

The Vikings Blade comes with a travel case which has a mirror in it. The product also comes with 5 ultra-sharp unbranded blades which will guarantee longer shaving experience before considering purchasing extra blades. The Wilkinson Sword Classic also comes with 5 extra blades. They are also as sharp as those of the Vikings Blade.

Unique Feature

The Vikings Blade comes with an advanced butterfly head. Unlike the conventional TTO razors, this butterfly head allows for quick blade changes in about 5 seconds. The Wilkinson Sword Classic doesn't seem to have any unique feature but it is mildly aggressive and suitable for beginners.

Parker 96R - Long Handle Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor Review - Price is good, build is not.

This is my first foray into shaving with a safety razor. I've used a mach 3 for about 10 years, and a shick quattro for a year. Becoming frustrated with the price of replacement cartridges, and the poor quality of shave, I decided to go old-school, and have found many helpful articles and reviews on safety razors. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on this project, since saving money was part of the goal. I found the Parker 96R on amazon, which looked to be a good balance of price, quality, and features.

The first shave was terrible, but I chocked it up to not adequately softening by beard. I nicked myself pretty badly and had terrible razor burn. But I had only prepared myself with a hot washcloth on my face. The next shave, I showered first and it was awesome! Smooth, no nicks, and no razorburn. Ha, I figured it out... So I shaved again two days later with good results. I thought it was settled, but the next shave was TERRIBLE again. Blood everywhere. Nicks and razor burn with not even that close of a shave.

What I discovered is that the blade sits unevenly in this razor. It is not wide enough, such that when the correct amount of blade is exposed on one side of the razor, there is too much exposed on the other side. You can try to correct this by shifting the blade over, but then there is too much exposed on the other side every time.

I like to shave with only one side of the razor, then go to the other side only for the next shave. I rotate sides, then flip the blade and rotate sides again to evenly use the blade. What I noticed is that I can consistently get good results on one side only, and started paying close attention as to how the blade sits on the holding mechanism. I discovered that it is badly machined, and has slop in how it fits the blade.

I am going to return this razor, and get something more precisely made. Getting a good shave requires more than this razor has to offer. I'm looking at a Vikings Blade. It is more simple.

On the Parker 96R I do, however, like the butterfly mechanism and the handle balance feels nice. I just wish it was made better.

How to Get That Classic Summer Look with the Vikings Blade Razor

Take a deep, long breath in and let it exhale freely without any care in the world. Now that's exactly how summertime feels like. Summer, like other seasons, has its trends and one of such is staying stylish. Using the VikingsBlade razor, getting this look should be a walk in the park. To get this look, here are some tips you may want to take to heart.

·         If you are that gentleman that shaves every morning, you may want to wait for like 40 minutes before putting that razor on your face. This will allow for fluid in the skin to withdraw back.
·         Use a good face cleanser to clean your face. This opens up pores and prepares the skin for shaving by removing dead skin cells.
·         Apply a shaving cream if necessary
·         Use the Vikings Blade by shaving gently, one stroke at a time
·         The Vikings Blade is designed to prevent cuts but generally, you need to shave in the same direction as your hair grows.
·         Apply an aftershave balm or and oil-free.

As a side note, ensure you do not use a dull blade to shave. Using such could result to injury or leave bumps on your face.

Elkaline Double Edge One Blade Safety Razor Review - Not Really Safe

I received the Elkaline Double Edge One Blade Safety Razor in exchange for my unbiased opinion. The razor came in a very nice case that included a mirror for shaving on the go or a closer view while shaving. It also included 5 blades each wrapped separately in paper. There is a spot in the case where the blades sit nicely below the razor. There was also a nice solid metal stand to hold the razor in place nicely and not easily can it fall off. The grip on the handle makes for easy holding without dropping. The razor has some weight to it.

The blades are very easy to put in and the 2 door like covers cover over the razor blade very easily. By twisting the bottom of the handle it allows for these door like pieces to open and close for blade insertion without a hassle. I did not find this razor to be a safety razor since it very easily cut me while shaving. Maybe it's the angle I was using it at or something but i have never used one of these before and have no real clue about the best way to hold the razor while shaving.

With its weight it is kinda odd to hold shaving. It shaved nicely though I have 3 seperate cuts on my leg from using this and do not recommend it to others who have never used one. Though nicely made to me it is not worth the hassle of bleeding and scabs healing for days on end.

Merkur Classic Straight Safety Razor Review

In my intro to wet shaving, i am one of those who loves to research and learn as much as i can to make hopefully the best decision i can. (of course along the way you learn things that help you make better decisions after your initial decisions, and realize some things you didnt know to factor in in your original decision).

If you read around the internet, you will hear a lot about these 1 razors (Merkur 34c/Safety Razor vs Edwin Jagger de89). Many will claim one or the other is better for different reasons (with seemingly the Merkur being the "old school" choice and established choice while the EJ the "flashier" of the two and seemingly the "newcomer".

I originally chose the ej de89 b/c of how "smooth" and forgiving everybody said it was, while yet giving an exceptional smooth shave *(thus satisfying for both the beginner and pro). It definitely delievered. But unfortunately my iKon Bulldog handle for it (to add some weight and grip) one day broke the securing screw on my EJ DE89. I was devastated.

However that gave me a chance to then try the Merkur 34c (albeit I ordered the classic safety razor (3-piece instead of 2-piece razor) so I could use my iKon Bulldog handle to basically "frankenrazor" it to be just like a 34c. I had foudn some obscure personal review where a similar shaver like me (thick coarse hair, sensitive skin) claimed the Merkur provided a "closer shave" due to it being slightly more aggressive than the EJ.

So that is the backstory and setup for this review, In a nutshell, if you are deciding between the Merkur 34c/33c or similar vs the EJ de89 series as a starter.. the Merkur is definitely sturdier, better grip, and a moderately more aggressive shave. That has been IMMEDIATELY clear in my results after only a 2-3 shaves with the Merkur after a month with the EJ.

For me, however, the "moderately aggressive' shave meant more irritation.. MUCH MORE and not nearly as close of a shave. (My girlfriend absolutely complies with me on how the extreme difference in closeness/smoothness to the tough post-shave). This is also in testing the top top blades Ive come down to in myh testing as well - the Astras and the Feathers.

The clear hands-down winner for me is the EJ de89 series. So much smoother, and forgiving, and the shave is much closer to boot - MUCH. I believe it is because the EJ's head design somehow hits the sweet spot on how to hold razors (be it angles, flexing, something) that it just cuts a lot cleaner and with far less irritation.

With the EJ i was having a lot of difficulties narrowing down my blade of choice between Astra and Feathers (although Wilkinson and Personna also performed very well and provided very close shaves). Now I know why. For some reason it just makes many razors perform SUPERBLY that you could pick a few (mild or super sharp) blades and still get that great same smooth shave.

With the Merkur unfortunately, its been nothing but trouble and worse irritatin than i ever got with an EJ even in my first week. Even with an industry recognized "mild" razor such as Astra. And this is after over a month of technique development and practice!!

Anybody in wet shaving will tell you personal results will vary so the thing people should take away from this review is this (which you won't hear anywhere except in one review at a forum i "stumbled upon" that convinced me to try the Merkur to get a closer shave....

The Merkur 34c/safety razor is more aggressive than the EJ de89 series.
It does have the ability therefore to get a closer shave for you.... but it is definitely more noticeably harsher on your skin in the process even with a mild blade loaded.

If your skin is pretty tough and you want closeness, choose the Merkur between these two.
If your skin is sensitive or your #1 priority is comfort and avoiding skin irritation - get the EJ de89 series and know that even using Feather blades will feel comfortable in an EJ de89 razor.

Viking Blade Safety Razor Review

The first time I heard the name Vikings Blade I immediately thought of pirates and all. When my Parker finally got bad, I figured I could give this 'pirate' razor a try. I ordered online and got it delivered within the timeframe as promised. I love the fact that it came with 5 extra sharp blades (since I just finished with a Parker, if you know what I mean). The razor is just so beautiful to behold. Whoever thought of the chrome plating is a genius. Indeed it fits the Viking name.

My last Parker was a long handle so I had to get use to the VikingsBlade handle. With the closure to my skin, I think that's why the handle was made that way. The product is also heavy like my Parker. This pushes the blade very close to the skin and it gives really smooth shaves. So smooth, I love to caress my face when I am done shaving. It's an excellent product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for quality double edge razor.

The vikings blade safety razor review

Don't even know where to start with the Vikings Blade. I was thinking there was a format to writing reviews and since I couldn't find any, I'll just go right into it. I have used a lot of shaving sticks in my life. I once thought moving from the single edge to the double edge was all my face needed. Don't get me wrong; the double edge is far better than the single edge. I didn't even know why I had a thing for lightweight until I got the Vikings Blade.

I think the heavyweight of the razor pushes the blade closer to my skin. For the first time in a long time, I can get clean, smooth shaves repeatedly. So for me, the first thing I noticed was the weight. I can't really say the exact weight because I was not that excited to start weighing my razor. Then the chrome finishing makes the product very appealing. It gives off this shinning appearance especially when under a light. If you are much into appearances, then you would love this product.

Although I hardly have cuts when shaving, I haven't had any since I started using the Vikings Blade. With my experience with several brands, I have to say the Vikings Blade is really easy to use. I mean it shaves effortlessly. I believe I will be sticking with this product for a long time, until something better comes up of course!

You can get the Viking Blades on Amazon and Website.

The Vikings Blade Could Just Be the Next Best Thing

Usually when I want to purchase a product online, I spend hours going through the reviews - the Vikings Blade was no exception. I do this because I know there are many paid reviews out there these days but a closer look will always reveal the perceived quality of the product by real users. I decided I was going to wait till about 1 year before I do a review of my Vikings Blade. It's almost 10 months now and I feel this blade is deserving of an early review.

The first thing I love about the Vikings blade is how less aggressive the blades are when in use. I had an Edwin Jagger that although gave lovely cuts, I had to battle to be careful not to injure myself because of how aggressive the blades were. After all these months, the razor is still as effective as it was from the beginning.

The only issue I had was with the additional 5 blades attached to it. They just didn't meet up to the standard I wanted. So I purchased extra blade (which were cheap) and I haven't had any issue with it. The Vikings Blade is heavyweight which gives it a great amount of strength to allow for handling and close shaving. While I wait to see if it beats my 1 year mark, I have to say that so far so good, I like the product.

Smoothere Double Edge Safety Razor Review

I received the Smoothere Razor 10 days ago and my husband as used it a few times now so this in information I got about the razor from his use. It came in a really nice case to keep the razer and the bladesin which is a nice touch.
My husband said its kind of hard to use because of its shape so you have to really get use to holding it. It does cut the hair on your face which you can see by the pictures I have included in this review. He did say that the guards are not that great and in return he has cut his face a couple times. He used it yesterday and actually cut a pretty good size of skin out of his face. So the razor works, but I guess there is a time period of getting use to how to hold it properly against the skin and how to slid it down without cutting yourself.

I was given a discount on this item for my honest and unbiased review.

Breaking Through the Barriers: The Vikings Blade Safety Razor Success Story

To fully understand the success of any business, one would have to look back to its beginning. The Vikings Blade by Julian Vue is living proof that when a company is focused, goal oriented, uncompromising in quality, and have a great customer satisfaction guide, there's no limit to what it can achieve.

Julian Vue began the company in Melbourne, Australia - where the headquarters is currently based - and has been able to build the brand into one with an international status. As of today, the company's bestselling product is the Vikings Blade. In a market that is dominated by the big players with decades of experience, it takes a product with extraordinary characteristics to be able to carve any meaning niche for itself. The Vikings Blade is an embodiment of super quality and customer based product.

The North American double edge market is one of the toughest to penetrate worldwide. The Vikings Blade did not only stand before this barrier, it did an amazing job of breaking through it. As sales volume continuous to rise with each past yearly quarter, the product has left industry speculators and competitors in awe of its success.

Vikings Blade razor review

The Vikings Blade is a good product but to me, it is not as perfect as they claim it to be. This should be easy to understand if you have tried out several products. So I got the Vikings Blade and decided I was going to use it for about 3 weeks and see how it goes. Up until that time, I have been using the Edwin Jagger but began to have issues with its blade aggressiveness.

The Vikings Blade is indisputably beautiful and attractive to anyone who sees it. It also comes with accessories that most other brands or products don't include. My personal favorite is the travel case that has a mirror. The blade is not as aggressive as my Edwin Jagger and us quite smooth and gentle on my skin. It has a butterfly head which has its advantages but doesn't exempt it from its associated disadvantages. While the butterfly head allows for quick change of blades, it’s also a mechanism that is easily prone to looseness.

If you want the best out of the product, you have to be very gentle on how you use it and ensure you take note of this mechanism. That's the only con I seem to have observed so far with mine.

Vikings Blade Safety Razor vs Parker 92R

The double edge razor technology has shown its usefulness to every man time and time again. There are several brands in the market today but as with most devices, they tend to have their inherent pitfalls. Today's review would be taking a closer look at two products that has had their fair share of success. Using several criteria, here's a comparison between the Vikings Blade and the Parker 92R.

Design

The Vikings Blade is made from premium, superior Swedish materials known for their strength and heavy duty characteristics. It has a weight of 85g which makes it quite hefty and comes with a height of 3.75". This makes it neither too short nor long but just ideal for a firm grip.

The Parker 92R is made from solid brass and comes with a frame that makes it resistant to rust. Just like the Vikings Blade, it is a heavyweight razor but has a higher weight of about 95g.

Special feature

The Vikings Blade comes with a more advanced butterfly head that allows for easy change of blades. With its advanced butterfly head, it can effect blade change in as quickly as 5 seconds. Also imbedded in its advanced butterfly head is a micro-comb designed to minimize cuts during shaves.

The Parker 92R has a butterfly head for easy blade change but not like that of the Vikings Blade. Although a bit different, it is still able to allow for an uninterrupted shaving experience.

Accessories

The Vikings Blade comes with 5 unbranded blades coated with platinum. The Parker 92R comes with 5 sharp blades made from chrome material.

Superiority Always Wins: The Vikings Blade vs Other Design Copycat

There are quite a number of brands in today’s double edge razor industry. While some are manufacturers, others are just copycat brand that make use of refurbished or discarded products from others. A quick searchover the internet will show several brands that have similar designs as some top double edge brands like the Vikings Blade.

Some of such brands like eBetter, Bigfoot, Smoothere, JTrim, and others usually have a perfect resemblance like the Vikings Blade. Usually in the production of products like the Vikings Blade, several quality tests are carried out to ensure they meet all requirements and standards of the industry. If and when they do not pass these quality checks, the manufacturers often discard them. As is common to items like this, they often find their way into the grey markets.

If one is quite conversant with the dealing of the grey market, it would be easy to understand how these copycat brands can manufacture products from these discarded materials. Some with a level of creativity would go to China to purchase cheaper materials to redesignor reframe such products. Since not much is done to manufactures these, the final products are usually offered at a far cheaper price than the originals.

They look in every way like original products like the Vikings Blade but are of a lower quality. These copycat brands are more interested in sales volume than they are in quality. Usually these brands do not offer warranty or offer a short time warranty. This is because they are quite aware that the product would not be able to stand the test of time.

You can check out the product on Amazon and Julian Vue Website
